April Ambitions and Accomplishments
As you may have already seen through my various social media posts, the month of April was quite busy for me, even by my own standards. It happens to be my birth month and also the month when all of the hard work of Global Shapers Kathmandu Hub from the past several months culminated into the amazingingly successful Shape South Asia 2023. Every day brought new opportunities as we met potential collaborators, sought sponsorships, and gathered support. The Hub held weekly meetings, daily calls, and exchanged messages every minute. Here is a further breakdown of what went on behind the scenes.
Fundraising Idea: ChatGPT Course — Future of Skills
As part of our fundraising efforts, the Global Shapers Kathmandu Hub came up with the idea of organizing a ChatGPT course for employees and professionals. We designed a course with Gunjan Ghimire taking on the role of instructor. When we announced the call for participation and set the registration fee at NPR 500, we were pleasantly surprised by the response. Within a week, we received over 50 registrations for Batch 1, prompting us to halt further registrations. Moreover, numerous corporations and companies expressed interest in organizing the same training program at their workplaces, inviting us to serve as instructors and resource persons. This served as a strong indication that companies and industries are eager to upskill their workforce and employees. Building upon this initiative, we will soon be launching a project focused on the Future of Skills in Nepal.
Konrad Adenauer School for Young Politicians in Cambodia
Let me tell you about my amazing experience at the Konrad Adenauer School for Young Politicians in Cambodia. It was an eye-opening journey filled with inspiration and learning.
We started with a powerful presentation by Ms. Chanbormey Long, who shared the incredible work being done to empower Cambodian youth and shape the nation’s future. It was fascinating to discover Cambodia’s youthful spirit, much like our own Nepal, and I can’t wait to see the exciting developments that lie ahead.
One of the highlights was a workshop on Local Governance and Development, led by Dr. Marcelino Pandin. Through practical case simulations, we explored effective solutions for the challenges faced by our communities. Dr. Pandin emphasized the importance of professionalism, urging us to embrace responsibility, competence, and ethical conduct. It was an enlightening experience that reinforced my belief in the need for a similar empowerment academy in Nepal, where aspiring leaders can develop the skills needed for effective governance.
And that’s not all!
We also delved into the world of design thinking at the Konrad Adenauer School. Collaborating with passionate young politicians from different Asian countries, we used a system-thinking approach to tackle real-life challenges. Thanks to the guidance of Stephen Lin, we gained valuable tools and fresh perspectives for our political journeys.
I am truly grateful for this enriching experience. It has ignited my passion and equipped me to make a positive impact in my community and beyond. The lessons learned and connections made during my time at the school will undoubtedly shape my path as I strive to create a better future.
Now on a more personal note!
Solo Traveling and Hostel Experience
Following the completion of the third module, I embarked on a solo trip to Seam Riep City and decided to try staying in a hostel for the first time. The four days I spent there left me amazed by the experience. At the Mad Monkey Hostel, I found a sense of family and belonging. From engaging in pub crawls, road trips, and beer Olympics to sharing family dinners and participating in countless activities, I connected with hundreds of travelers who had been exploring the world for weeks and months. Exchanging stories, cultures, and new experiences became the essence of my solo trip. I am already planning my return to the Mad Monkey Hostel, either as a volunteer or intern, as I absolutely loved the idea of curating unforgettable experiences and memories for fellow travelers.
Finally Collected My Kathmandu University Certificate
After procrastinating for 4.5 years, I finally mustered the courage to collect my mark sheets and certificates from Kathmandu University. As a child, I was quite the bookworm, but during my undergraduate years, I came to realize that practical skills, knowledge, and experience were just as vital as academic achievements. When I arrived to pick up my certificates, the administration staff, assuming I might have had to retake some exams, asked me about it. However, once they examined my mark sheets, they were taken aback by the fact that I had waited so long to collect them. When they inquired about the reason for the delay, I simply explained that these certificates weren’t essential for running my business; I believed in putting my skills and experience into action!
To sum it all up, alongside the delightful surprise from my co-founders and shapers on my birthday, the highlights of this month included shaping the future of South Asia, enriching my knowledge of local development and governance, making new friends, and preparing for Shape South Asia 2023, which we have been tirelessly planning for months. It feels like there’s still so much left to do, but I am beyond excited for the upcoming SSA2023.
That is all for this month’s edition. See you guys next month!
